The gardener and the project
I'm Becky, the creator of Bloomsbury Lane Farm, a small-scale cut flower farm I operated on our property here just south of Atlanta. I closed the farm at the end of the 2019 growing season, largely after struggling mightily in the face of a brutal drought that summer. I like to think that the flower farm was a wonderful place for flower lovers to gather and learn new creative skills. I believe it was also a source of joy for the people who regularly got bouquets of my organically grown flowers. I loved tending to the flowers, designing bouquets, and playing a small role in the big events in people's lives.
This is about cultivating joy and beauty in our lives.
Although the flower fields are gone, my passion for growing things and finding creative outlets remains. I also have a strong determination to find contentment in my life as it is. Whether the garden is doing well or struggling, whether I can master a new craft or not, I want to revel in the countless pleasures that cultivating a garden, gathering with friends, celebrating the first tomato harvest of the year, and nurturing the artist within can bring.
What you'll find here is encouragement to do the same. And although I'd love to be perfect, I know how harmful perfectionism can be, both for ourselves and for those around us. That's why you'll also find photos of things that aren't going well in the garden, of ideas that haven't gone to plan. Essentially, among the stories and images of wonderful things, you'll also find what we don't see so much these days—the imperfections of life. The hope is that we all can weather those moments with patience and grace and remember that the pleasures are far more abundant.
